It is a warming oil, which means it goes on before you train, not after you have already pulled something. Massage it into the shins, calves, shoulders, forearms and lower back during the wrap-up, before you skip. It increases blood flow to the muscle before you load it, which is the entire point of the stuff.

It works after a session too, for aches and stiffness, and Thai fighters use it on the shins as part of conditioning. A small amount goes a long way — work it into the muscle properly rather than dabbing it on. The massage matters as much as the oil.
