Lace-Up Muay Thai Gloves

You cannot put lace-up gloves on by yourself. That single fact decides whether they are right for you.

In exchange, you get a wrist fit that no velcro glove can match. The laces pull the glove tight along the whole length of the wrist rather than clamping it at one point, so the support is even, the fit is exact, and there is no strap edge digging into the back of your hand. Once they are on, they feel like part of you.

Who they are actually for

  • Competition. Most promotions require them, and this is where the wrist support genuinely earns its place.
  • Serious pad and bag work — if you have someone to lace you in and you are not swapping gear mid-session.
  • Anyone with wrist problems who wants the most locked-in fit available.

They are a poor choice for general training. If you turn up alone, or you need to check your phone, drink water, or change gloves between rounds, you will regret them within a week. Most people should buy velcro gloves and treat lace-ups as a second pair.

What we stock

  • Fairtex BGL6 — the standard lace-up, in the compact Fairtex shape.
  • Fairtex BGL7 — Mexican style. A slimmer, more contoured hand compartment, longer cuff, and a punchier feel. Favoured by boxers.
  • Twins Special BGLL1 — the classic Thai lace-up, with the roomier Twins hand compartment.
  • Top King — Pro and Super Competition, both with the plusher Top King padding.
  • Boon — hand made in Thailand, and as with all Boon gloves, they run snug. Size up if you are between sizes.

Sizing

Same rules as any Muay Thai glove: 16oz for sparring, 12oz for bags and pads, 8oz for competition if your promotion allows it.

Brand shape still matters more than the ounce rating. Fairtex run compact and true to size, Twins run roomier, Boon run snug. If you are moving between brands, read the fit notes on our main gloves collection before you order.

Looking after them

Unlace them properly rather than yanking them off — the eyelets are the weak point, and forcing a glove off will tear one out eventually. Beyond that, treat them like any leather glove: air them open after every session, keep them out of the sun, and never leave them sealed in a kit bag overnight.
