Primo Fightwear was founded in 2020 by people who came to Muay Thai through art, street culture and music — and it shows. Where most Thai brands lean on heritage, Primo took the equipment apart and rebuilt it for a modern athlete, with a bold, minimalist look that stands out in a category full of dragons and flames.

Sizing — read this before you order

This is the single most important thing on the page.

Primo shorts typically sit between sizes. Because they are hand made, there is genuine variation between designs — which is why Primo publish an individual size chart for each pair of shorts rather than one chart for the whole range.

So: check the chart for the exact design you want, and if you are in doubt, size up.

This is the opposite of the advice for Fairtex, whose chart is accurate and should be followed exactly. Mixing the two up is the most common sizing mistake we see. Our Muay Thai shorts size guide has every brand side by side.

The gloves

Primo gloves have a longer cuff and a wider spread of padding than a traditional Thai glove — closer to a hybrid between a Muay Thai and a boxing glove.

The extra cuff length gives noticeably more wrist support. That makes them a strong choice for anyone with a history of wrist trouble, and for anyone who throws heavy on the bag. They are more glove than a Fairtex, in every sense — if you want a compact, minimal, connected feel, look elsewhere; if you want your wrist locked in, look here.

The shorts

Primo's flagship, and the reason most people find the brand.

The designs run from stark and monochrome to genuinely loud, and the cut is modern rather than traditional Thai — cleaner lines, less flare. The waistband uses either a six-strip or eight-strip elastic construction, and more strips means a tighter, more secure band.

Never tumble dry them. Heat destroys the waistband elastic quickly, and once that goes the shorts are finished regardless of how good the satin still looks.

Coaching equipment and apparel

Primo also make focus mitts, kick pads and belly pads, plus tank tops and sports bras in the same design language as the shorts. The mitts in particular are worth a look if you hold pads and want something that does not look like everything else in the gym.
