If you are new to this

The two things that catch everyone out are glove weight and sizing, and neither is obvious.

• Gloves — 16oz for sparring, 12oz for bags and pads. What you use them for matters far more than your body weight.
• Shorts — sized on your waist measurement, not your clothing size. Never order off your jeans size.
• Shin guards — ignore the height columns on the charts. Measure your shin length and calf circumference.
